Default neat

that's the one thing that i hate about listening to my iriver (like an ipod, only not :P) in the car, being forced to change songs with the player itself.

Default Actually, depending on what model Sony you've got you could get an IceLink.

From what I heard it works similar to the Alpine system.<ul><li><a href="http://densionusa.com/merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&amp;Store_Code=DU&amp;Pro duct_Code=I11_Sony&amp;Category_Code=IA_AFTERMARKE T">http://densionusa.com/merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&amp;Store_Code=DU&amp;Pro duct_Code=I11_Sony

Default sadly tis a cheap sony that doesnt even turn off when the key is removed... and its 3 years old

But atlass, the alpine will someday be mine, and i will then in turn run over my sony with a large powerstroke truck, then the audi.

Default I'm pretty sure Audi wired the 4k so that the HU is always powered.

I know in both my 4ks this is the case.

Default

Correct, that's how I kept my Alpine wired as well - though it wouldn't be hard to change!

Default I was talking to the local sterio installer and he said that

the "funky german ignition switch constants" that they splice off of to make the HU turn on and off usually loses connection. Or breaks, also something about the circut not being broken untill the key is fully removed from the ignition. Then again I don't think he had the slightest clue what he was talking about and was kinda a jerk to me and my frend searching for audio equip.(about $600 worth at that too)

my HU not being wired to a consistant drives me crazy, i know ive accidentally left it on more than once

Default your installer is a moron

Look at the wiring diagram - you'll clearly see that the radio is specifically wired so that it constantly has power irregardless of the ignition key. With an aftermarket radio to do what you want - there's one lead that you keep wired to the factory constant wire. The easiest place to wire the key switched lead (keeping in mind that there is little or no current going through this one) is takeing it off the positive on your voltage meter in the center console - easy as pie because it uses screw type connetors on the back of the guage!

Default The installer is actually right, at least in my case...

My 87 4000s worked like the installer said(before i changed the head unit). the stereo would come on as soon as the tip of the key went into the ignition switch and moved the two covers aside. no turning of the key was necessary to get the stereo to come on and it would go off as soon as the key was completely removed from the ignition. of course a warning bell would ring if the doors were open and the key tip was in the ignition switch which drove me crazy so i wired it up to the AC switch (i removed the AC system).
