Very rare. Well worth it.
Make sure your PCD's and offsets are compatible. 4x100 ( 1982-84 Coupes and VW's) vs 4x108 (1985-87 Coupes and 4000's)
Best offsets for these cars range between 28mm and 45mm.
Most factory wheels on VAG cars of this vintage are optimized in the 40's.
Figure 12-13mm = 1 inch. You do not want to go more than an inch off the center of your hub's driveline. Showcars, fine. Drivers, figure on constantly replacing tires, bushings and suspension bits on a car that more than 50% of the parts are NLA.
BBS made some compatible wheels at the time. As did Mahle(similar) and Rial.

ATS Cups are nice.

, so are Schmidt's.

RH Classics are fantastic but rare as well.
Vintage BMW Melber's, although not 16's they look great on an early(B1) Audi.

Has anyone ever tried to put an 85+ bumper on the older models and kept the quad headlamps? How does that look? I love the quads and don't want to get rid of them, but the stock bumpers stick out way too far.

Probably. I'll look at my pic files.
They are a bit like diving boards.(Blame R. Nader)
Take a look at a Eurospec CGT from 82-84.
Much better looking bumpers.
But the shipping would be monstrous.
Still, I've considered it.

Kind of a tax protest. Up until July 2011 if I transfer plates off my Volvo 850 I'll get hit with a transportation tax of up to $50. Normally I transfer plates among my 4 cars. After July 2011 it won't matter I'll have to pay that fee regardless. It needs lots of little things but maybe I should also change the timing belt and figure out that oil drip from the front. I have a urq also. That's already in the 2 car garage.
