Default New Engine for '85 4000s?

Does anyone know if it's possible to still buy a new 1.8 factory engine for my 1985 4000s? I've got 210,000 miles on my original engine and it's blowing so much smoke it's embarrassing. I love the car, but I can't get my local mechanics real interested in rebuilding it because of the time involved. So my options are a new engine, if there are any available, or the recycle yard.

Default I think there was a brand new one at the Carlisle Show...anyone know the seller?

I could be wrong, but here's a pic Mike (AudiSport4000) got of it:

I blew an oil seal in my old one and kind of ruined it. I got a used one with 104k miles and good compression numbers for $395 shipped. I think a new engine (if you can even find one) will command some high $$$$$. Used is the most cost effective.

He doesn't want that one. It was a test engine for mechanics in school.

Default Not new but one has only 90K on eBay for $150.

i think 90K is really low on these engines. The auction claims its in great condition.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=791465487 6&category=33615</a

Default Get a 2.0 block...

I'd suggest getting a 2.0 from a 1988-1990 Audi 80/90 FWD. It will bolt right in, no modifications needed and will provide a nice bump in power...
