I have been hearing a noise in the rear it sounds like a spring noise when going over a bump, a slight "boing" noise. I have heard it coming from both sides. I know earlier cars have rear lid torsion bars but the later cars like mine have the gas filled lift struts. I don't think it is rear strut coil spring noise but I could be wrong. Any Ideas??????

does it happen when cornering or just when you drive over something large like rail road tracks or a speed bump? What year and are you talking FWD or Quattro set up?

The noise can happen almost anytime. Sometimes by turning a slight corner. It does not need a big bump to make this noise. The car is a 1987 4000CSQ.

If the noise is in the rear and changes with power on off then it could be the differential bushings or even the exhaust pipe.
