Default Not the solenoid..alternator dying out? Car is not charging enough..

So my starting issue has been traced to not enough juice. I was able to jump the car off a battery on the end of jumper cables, not attached to a running car. So it didn't take much. Car had been sitting for almost 2hrs. And I put water on the starter and solenoid to cool it off. I have been watching the volt meter the passed week, and I have been running the A/C constantly in the afternoon. Well it only is at 12v. It will get near 14 with only the radio on.(stk radio) So last night the headlights pulled as much as the A/C does. All of my connections are clean, wire is good. Batterey is only a year old. 440CCA 500CA. Is this the sign of a dying alternator? I'm not doing short drives either. 20+ miles between startups, mostly highway. So the car is running at 2500rpms+. And no I am not going to drive around without A/C. ;-P

original post..

Default Re: Its a sign of summertime! ;o)

Heat!

Lead acid batteries suck in the heat!

You voltage regulator on your alternator doesnt charge the battery correctly, because its hot!

What name brand of battery you have?

Once the lead-acid starts to develop a bad cell, its toast! Still under warrenty?

Is your after-run fan running after you park the car?

Default Battery brand..Interstate 50month. bought Aug'01. fan not running all the time.

The car is not overheating at all, runs the same temp if morn (65) or afternoon(105) with A/C on.

I would assume the batt is still covered. Water is full on all cells.

Default I believe the alternator is the original('82).. only has 78k on the odo.

well, I can't hear any slipping when engaging/dis the A/C. what is the tension requirements on the main belt? how many cm/mm for a certain weight..
