Default O2 sensor question....

...okay, i went to HUW's site and read up on how to check if the O2 sensor is still good. he says that the reading on the ammeter should be between .2 and .7 volts. i got a reading of .3 to 2.0 volts and it pretty much hung arround 1.0 volts. now, am i correct in saying that i need to replace the O2 sensor or does anyone have any other knowledge on this subject.
i have a rich smelling exhaust which is what caused me to look into this. TIA

here is the page on HUW's site about the O2 sensor

Default Re: Agreed..........

If your getting reading like that all over the place and the rich smell, I would say it is shot.

Default sure sounds junk

also, if an O2 ever reads a negative voltage, it is physically damaged. To have that kind of voltage, the heater may be shorted out.
