Default I'm with jason M1 15w50

My car has allegedly been run on M1 since the day after it rolled off the showroom floor... That said, my lifters are ticking and will be replaced very soon.

Default 15w-40 Diesel-rated oil is the most advanced and robust dino oil. M1 SUV 5w-40 would be best synth.

If you like heavy oil, Pennzoil Long-Life 15w-40 is almost a 50 weight, but won't shear into 30 weight + sludge in 3000 miles. Diesel oils are state-of-the-art as their specs are always evolving. Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 is the best cold-cranking one, could pass a 10w test. Chevron Delo 400 has a GII+ basestock, partly-hydrocracked basicly the same as a GIII "synthetic". Havoline is Chevron base oil too, with the latest PCMO (Passenger Car Motor Oil) add-packs. M1 SUV 5w-40 is the best winter-synth oil, period. This is coming from someone with 7 cases of German Syntec ("GC") out in the shed. You guys could benefit from Auto-RX. I am using it in my A4 V6 and CGT. You have to decide for yourself on it, but out of a few 1000 people on the oil Forum, half have used it and no complaints. The Forum members include PhD Organic Chemists, real Triboligists, even a Propulsion Engineer.

Default Hell yes! Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w-40 will clean and lube without shearing or sludging.

Default Brad, consider Auto-Rx, it is no B.S..

Search it out on the regular oil forum under "Additives". There are no better endorsments than Professional Triboligists.

http://auto-rx.com</a

I still hang on the B6 Forum, even though I sold mine after 6 months. It sucked. 12 Audis later, and my friend owns a Bosch Service Center...I have no life. Nice to know someone other than B6'ers see my posts. Until I started at the oil Forum, I knew squat about oil. It's one of those things that, the more you learn, the more that you realize you don't know.
PS I just checked out your PP! I'm in Poconos area of PA, and have a house in Center-City Philly. My friend from Sewickley got married at Heinz Cathedral on Pitt campus, the only time I was out there :0(

Default

You really don't think that lifters with 200k miles on M1 are gunked up, not worn out?

Default Mobil 1 is no guarantee of anything. Some believe changing brands is best...

...because every brand has weaknesses. Mobil has changed formulas often. Definately a good pick if you are sticking with one oil, still Auto-Rx goes beyond normal engine oil cleaning. It's worth a try, take a little time to look over the positive reports on it. PS we have 175k on pep boys (random) oil and no lifter problems.

http://auto-rx.com</a

Default I've just always been skeptical of snake oil

It's good and well that they've got 20 or so random testimonials on their site (that they could have just made up), and you say it's good - but I'm just skeptical about what the product is ACTUALLY doing inside my engine... How it effects the lubricating properties of my my oil, what happens if one of those chunks it is allegedly 'cleaning' blocks an oil passage etc etc etc...

Default Auto RX, my experience...

Bought my '87 4kq off ebay for a song, but it was a youngling, only 67k miles. No idea what maintenance was like prior to my ownership, but it had the typical seal leaks at valve cover and pan...

I'd bought a 3 pack of Auto RX to do all my cars. It was much cheaper when I bought it, got a deal through the Bobistheoilguy.com site (check there for many many more positive ARX experiences!).

Ran it through the 4kq according to the instructions, and then a month or so later dropped the pan and took the VC off for new seals.

I was _amazed_ at how clean it was in there. It's not like there was very little crud. There was NONE. Even in the nooks and crannys of the bottom of the block were I would have thought some garbage would have accumulated: nothing.

To be fair, I didn't have it all apart prior to ARX but I really think that there is no way that the crevices of the block could have had no sludgie buildup after years of spotty maintenance.

$0.02,
Robert
