Ok, since Im putting the difflock panel back in, I'll need to hook up something for the oil temperature. I feel iffy about using the stock part on the MC motor, as there is a very large bolt there and Ive heard there are misc springs and crap around there. Any chance I can use a 4000 one and use one of the spots on the drivers side of the block (1 pin dealie)? Id then have to find a way or whatever wire it is that it hooks into for the plug at the back of the panel, right?

there is a factory temp sender for the exact location. Yes there is a spring assembly behind it but it will come out together, nothing big.
Here is the link for the part.
Also I vaguely remember seeing VW part thar replaces the oil pan drain bolt with one that has a built in temp sensor, but my memory on that is kinda foggy. Just some options to mull over dude.
Can't wait to see ya at Carlisle.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=01xiv5uld3z2ju45320dnwie&make id=800002@Audi&modelid=1366972@5000%20CS%20TUR BO&year=1988&cid=18@Electrical%20%26%20Vac uum&gid=5704@Oil%20Temperature%20Sensor">Oil t

same as the 4000. I have mine hooked up to it just like I did in the 4000 (kept the same wiring too, just replaced the wire cuz it was dryrotted/falling apart).
Haven't paid attention to see if it works or not cuz I'm more concerned with my afr and such, but you get the idea.
it's really easy to pull out and that spring is under little to no copmression.

You just undo the big bolt, and replace it with the sensor 'bolt'.
The springs inside? Not much to them, except to know that they are there ahead of time. That way, you won't go dropping them on the floor or letting parts fly away!
Maybe get an 'exploded view' picture of what's in there ahead of time, so you know what to expect coming out behind the bolt?
As mentioned, not under much pressure by the time you get the bolt undone.
You'd want to use that particular sender, as it's the one calibrated to work with the bargraph diff lock panel. Another sender may not be calibrated the same.
