Default Ping Martin....plastic fuel line retrofit....

Spotted this post on the q-list from about a year ago, got any more details? I'm thinking my fuel lines could use a R&R before they decide to leak and blow up the car. Folks are telling me plastics aren't "good enough" for fuel line and CIS pressures. I'm curious about the hose ends you used as well.

http://www.audifans.com/pipermail/urq/2007-April/011243.html</a

Default I have the Dorman 800-300 kit

it allows you to replace the lines with nylon. It includes end fitting, the line and tools.

It has SAE sized fittings and tube. but for whole section you replace that's fine. It just depends on how you go from the fittings to the mating pieces on the car.

Default I was thinking....

chop off the lines short of the fittings in the rear and at the firewall in the front. Connect the nylon using nylon to steel compression fittings. I'm just a bit leary of that setup dealing with the 65-80psi the CIS fuel pump puts out. If it works, that makes life ALOT easier.... and its way cheaper then running that stainless braided stuff.

Default I haven't tried it yet

It's got me thinking though. Most of the fittings are nylon but they are supposed to be rated for the pressure. I know the nylon line itself has a burst pressure of 220psi.

Default Did he post about it?

Can't find anything over at motorgeek. If these lines can handle CIS pressures, it could help a lot of folks with older euro cars.

Default Nylon line can take 220psi, so yes

Haven't been able to find out the pressure rating of the fittings though. But they're designed for fuel lines, so they should.
