Did you bleed the air out of the radiator?

My 84 CGT operates at the same temps that you are stating. 3/4 in stop and go and a little below on the highway. My fan doesn't kick on until right about 3/4 though, so I figure it is normal. Never overheats...although lately it has been shutting off if the A/C is on. Plugs are in bad shape though. I've only been driving the car about a week and a half though...so I still don't know all the quirks of it.

Default BIG ONE ....MAKE SURE THE RADIATOR IS CLEAN , IN BETWEENT THE ELEMENTS , I SAW THAT BEFORE...

it can get so filthy that the air does not go through any more ...I saw this happen , that's why i'm saying it ... just check it well..

Default Re: Overheating solution that worked for me and my GT

My '83 GT (that I bought new) had a similar problem this year.

I've went through the route of changing water pumps (several times), thermostats, hard-wiring the fan (to stay on), flushing the system, and changing the radiator.

What finally worked for me (and it only took fifteen minutes) was to change several of the worn-out looking vacuum hoses.

I think leaks were causing the vacuum-advance on the timing to operate incorrectly. The engine would run very hot at highways speeds.

It took a while, but I think I've solved it!
