I am rebuilding an 87 4000cs 2.2NA 10V and I am interested in the Schrick 272 cam. I called 2Bennett and they said it will not pass smog with this cam. Anyone running this cam and if so how do you like it and does your car pass smog???? Thanks.

No smog here. I'm not sure it will really alter the smog reading that much if you don't richen the injection to benefit. It has a slightly lopey idle but still idles well. I have a real problem with the price of that cam though, which is why I bought a whole car to get mine, then sold the car for what I paid for it and got the cam for free.

Too much overlap= too many unburned hydrocarbons..
To really take advantage of it, you need the 2.3L big valve head.

Thanks for the info guy's! I guess I just have to try it. I would like to use the 20V head but I dont think you can swap a 10V for a 20V, or can you. I dig the buying a car for the cam thing though (smart way to get it). I also have an 87 CS for parts if anyone needs anything let me know. They are both in primo shape.

2Bennett has them @ www.2bennett.com. They charge $525.00 for the cam. They cam is pricey, like everything else on the car but if you can find a N.O.S. cam (and you can't, not even Audi can get them anymore) then you would be paying $670.00 for a stock cam.

WOW! that is a damn good price. How much do you hate having to change it every year though? That is all that is holding me back at this point. Also, I forgot to ask about pistons. I can't find anything less than $800.00 for the stock size. I found new rings no prob. but if I can save a little there it would be great. Thanks.
