not sure if you can tell by the pic, but the shift linkage has detached from the ball joint. It goes back together, but I think I need a new bushing or fitting. Can anyone help with a part number and where I might find one?

i had that happen to me i just went to my local dealer and asked they had it and i think it was 25-30 dollars! if your having a hard time getting into a gear<like i couldnt get into first> you can take off the boot cover in car and pull up on the shift rod and it went in for me! i would bring it to a shop and pay for it to be done! i tried to do mine <but unless you have tiny arms> its almost imposable to get to! right on top of the tranny.

You may need to be signed in to see the schematic... then you may be able to search by part number on worldimpex.com

http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/au/A80Q/1985/60/55/613169/</a

Are you saying that the plastic bushing popped off the ball, or did the ball come out of the cast piece that bolts to the trans?
I just did a repair on mine, so It's pretty fresh in my mind.

Looks like they're out of stock, but I would write them. They sell it as shifter bushing for a VW Fox. Its the whole set of 5 bushings for like $45. If you have the linkage apart, you might as well replace all of them. You'll have to sooner or later anyway.
Here's what mine looked like:

Found the part number (431711221) for the ballsocket, but can't find anywhere. even dealer said there wasn't any in the country. Found it at Shokan, but the only way to get it is to buy a new complete shaft for $115.
