That's about all I can say of my 86 4kcsq with the 185/70/14 Winterforce snows I just put on last week.
These tires are incredible and after driving with all of the Nokia choices in the last 8 years an unbeatable value. C'mon 43 bux a corner? I have never experienced this kind of traction in snow/packed snow/ice/slush conditions. The braking on snow is simply amazing.
Check Tirerack.com for these pups. That is all.

Stock is 185/60/14, so if you put on 185/70/14 you are imparting a 6.4% error into your speedometer. When chaning tire size, you should really be shooting for less than 2% error, I personally insist on less than 1%. The "correct" size if you want a 70 series tire and a 14" rim would be 155/70/14 with a .9% error or 165/70/14 with a 1.6% error. The BEST size for a dedicated snow tire would be 165/75/13, which would produce a 0.0% (NO) error, it's an exact fit, but you would have to buy some 13" rims...

& speedo error is only important if U pay attention to the speedo.
In the winter I just drive for conditions, which is usually slower than the speed limit anyway.

Technically you are alos throwing off the odometer, which is federal offense, unless you lable the cr as "not actual mileage"...but it's not like any of the odometers work on our cars anyway.
I don't think it's a big worry.

C'mon, get real.
Oh, and you can't put 13" wheels on a 4kq because they won't clear the brakes.

I just put some Dunlop Graspic DS-1 tires on my FWD '87 4k last Saturday. They make me feel a lot more confident on snow covered roads, especially versus my summer tires I made due with over last winter, which are BFG Comp T/As. The Graspics were only $47 each at The Tire Rack, plus mounting. I used size 175/70-14 on a set of factory '87 wheels (Ronal style). They are taller than what is specified for FWD, stock being 175/70-13 or 185/60-14, but the optional all-season size listed for the Quattro is 175/70-14 (stock Quattro being 195/60-14). A friend of mine had 175/70-14s on his FWD with no clearance problems, so I thought what the heck. Plus, I've had 13" wheels on my '87 4k, and they just looked funny.

Good catch on the Quattro not being able to use 13" wheels. One reason I decided to use my 14" wheels versus my 13" wheels was if/when I upgrade to 10" brakes on my FWD, I will need a 14" wheel minimum.

I love em in the snow. The car is extremely stable in the snow with center diff lcoked. No speedo error either. A little bit noisy on dry pavement, but for $30 per, I a'int complainin!
