Default Spongy Brakes

Just replaced the front discs and pads on my '84 cgt, and now the brake pedal feels very spongy. I have to press it way down to get any response from the brakes... any ideas?

I didn't do anything to the brake lines, it just seems odd that that much air could get in just from changing the discs and pads. I never disconnected the brake lines.

Default You should ALWAYS flush the old fluid out when changing pads/rotors...

The old fluid traps moisture and starts to corrode the inside of the caliper
+ the boiling point drops when the fluid is old and contaminated...

Default Yeah, what he said!

you got air. And what ddg says, flush out the old fluid. I dig what you're saying about the not opening the lines but I'm afraid air's the problem.

Default Or you pushed a bunch of crap into the master

To be safe I break the bleeders loose when I do brakes before I push the pistons back. It keeps the accumulated junk in the calipers from getting back to the master. I've seen several masters get ruined from that. It is more important to do with abs brakes to protect the abs unit. Gravity usually does a good job of bleeding the brakes for me, but sometimes they need bled under pressure.
