CGT with brake shoes:
I have the old wheel cylinder out by removing the bleeder valve and just unscrewing it from the backing plate instead of backing off the nut at the brake line. That's because the brake line to wheel cylinder nut seems frozen so I figure I'll just twist the brake line into a pretzel if I continue to unthread.
I was hoping the new wheel cylinder would screw in exactly like the old one (with the breeder screw removed) but it doesn't snug up and needs an extra quarter turn to seat.
I'll try some propane on the brake line nut.
Help - how can I get this new wheel cyliner installed?

-Propane probably won't get things hot enough to crack the corrosion, but can't hurt to try.
-Perhaps try soaking the line/nut interface with some of you fave 'penetatrating fluid'?

Brake fluid burning explosively?
I'm googline oxy-acetelyne now - it sounds like I'll be melting that brake line.
Time to be a big boy and move beyond propane.

Probably brake fluid. That's OK.
You can get some small 2 part flame systems that use propane size cylinders, and somethign else.
You could try that, if you can find out what it is. You can get oxy acetelyne in small tanks, if you don't plan on useing it much.
Get small tips, and you *can* be very selective where the heat goes. And you can do proper brazing with that kind of torches too. Just like soldering, only stronger.
Once you DO get something like that, you'll wonder how you ever did without!

Not something I just pick up a sears for $55? The kits I see start at 200 and don't seem to include the gas.
I might just be re-installing that old wheel cylinder. I think I lucked out a few years ago (8 years?) and the new one screwed in just like the old one. The one in there now is ATE and this one is Meyer.
Perhaps I should suck it up and pay a shop to replace this plus add a new brake hose.
I'll try a little more with my propane, and see what else I can learn about oxyacetylene torch.
Defeated perhaps - but I knew this was a possiblity.

I was able to rotate the brake line so the fitting pointed down, then I filled a little cup with liquid wrench, submerged it and went to the gym (and sears).
Heat at the nipple end might have done the trick, I spend a lot of time heating the back end where the tube goes into the fitting, but a last shot of heat at the tip that goes into the brake cylinder made a difference.
So yea - I did what frank told me to do. Thank you frank.
