Default Techron vs. Motorvac

Anyone know the difference between the two? I was waiting at my uncle's shop to turn in my key to have the car inspected when I spotted a brochure for the Motorvac carbon clean service. I leafed through the brochure and what I got from it is that the Motorvac basically forces carbon cleaner through the fuel system to clean off deposits.

In the past I've run a bottle of Techron through the car so I'm wondering how much of the carbon it might've left behind. Is this Motorvac process a lot better than just plain old FI cleaner? FYI, I think it was $70 to have it done.

A friend of mine just inherited a boroscope from his father who works at a manufacturer of them so I may just give that a shot to see if I can actually see buildup.

Default My thoughts...

Techron works well but it is really diluted since it is a small bottle in a large fuel tank.

I have had the Motorvac service done to 3 of my cars ans I seen it saolve many issues with other cars. Yolu hook up the machine and take off the fuel pump relay and run the engine just on the Motorvac cleaner. You run the vehicle for 15 minutes with the cleaner after it has been soaking inside the fuel system and the combustiuon chamber.

On my 16valve it smoothed out the idle and raised the gas mileage and kept the engine cooler.
On my 1994 Passat VR6 it just made it run smoother.
On my 1994 Audi 90 CS it took care of a nagging hesitation on acceleration.

I work for a dealership and we actually use the machine on some cars under warranty to take care of hard to diagnose multiple misfires and runnability issues when there is no check engine light on.

I think this is a great product and I have been familiar with it for three years. Have never had one complaint. We sell the service for $129.95 including removing and cleaning the throttle body!!!!

Default Totally different process

Techron is just a gas addative. Motorvac is a system where they hook up a bottle of very concentrated cleaner to one of your intake vacuum lines and let it get sucked directly into the engine. Have you ever seen a car at a shop with TONS on smoke pouring out the tail pipe? I mean HUGE CLOUDS? That's what Motorvac does. Literally it can get rid of 20+ years wirth of carbon buildup in 1 application. Techron can clean out only little deposits...

If you want something little stronger than Techron, try BG 44K.

Default Hopefully it's safer than the BG Tranny Flush I had done...

Took my Jeep in for a flush, and it crapped out on me 3 months later. Seems circulating particles in the transmission clogs small passages and disrupts operation. I'm now leery of those sort of machines.
