on my 86 CGT the temp gauge in the dash doesn't work and was told it may be the sender...my question is, where is it? is it easy to get at? is it on the thermostat housing? also how would I adjust the fuel gauge? it read 1/4 tank when I'm all filled up and was told that it can be adjusted to compensate...???

You can adjust it a little on the dash, but it just moves the face up and down about 1/8 inch.
Take the right "vent" on the dash cluster surround off, you'll see a small lever with a slot in it. Pry this lever up or down to adjust the face.
But this isn't going to fix your problem, it sounds like a bad fuel sender.
As for the temp sensor, at the engine side of the upper rad hose, on the thermostat housing you'll see two sending units, it's the sensor on bottom.

thanks guys, now the fuel sender, does it get called something different? fuel pump? and is it relatively easy to check the float on it? or is it an "in the air" type of job?

you can try to poke a pin hole in it and drain it and then somehow close the hole with something resistant to gas.. mine worked for a little then died again
