Default Transmission oil

How do I check the transmission oil? I don't have any transmission symptoms, but I thought of checking it anyway.

Default Re: Transmission oil

The usual procedure with manual transmissions/transaxles is that there are two plugs: lower one is drain, upper one is fill. To check level, just unscrew upper plug and check w/finger; proper level is right up to the top until the fluid starts coming out.

If you are draining and filling together, make sure you can loosen the fill plug before removing the drain plug. If just topping off, loosen fill plug only, of course.

Default depends on what's in there...

Redline MT-90 is a redish bronze color vs MTL which is pretty red.

Think it differs depending on the oil used. ALl I know is that tranny fluid reeks
