Default Turning signal stopped working

Was driving and next I knew the turn signal stopped working. There is no blinking light in the dash, no sound and none of the lights outside work. I believe there is a fuse in the engine compartment and also a relay, not sure if the relay is in that box or under the dash, driver side. Hope there is nothing else like an in-line fuse or other relay. Many thanks

The relay is behind the instrument cluster, clipped in right behind the tachometer.

It was indeed that relay. And of course it had to be in a location that requires taking things apart, could not be in an easy to reach spot like in the box in the engine compartment or under the dash driver side

Just giving you the opportunity to practice repairing ancient plastic. But at least it was just the relay and not a short some other impossible to find spot.

Just keep in mind that our toys where designed in the 70th, logic and accesability was not a requirement then.
Consider the exercise to an exploration of the past.
Ciao

Hi Werner, nice to hear from you. Honestly I find the Audi and air cooled Porsches better designed than other cars. For ex changing the oil on a Jeep or a Maserati is such a messy affair I abandoned doing that myself whereas on an Audi or '79 911 it is a clean affair. Accessibility to many components is also much better. This relay though was not the best though

Which model are we talking about? I'm also having a turn signal(and backup lights, and high beams, and...) issue. I have a speedo and an analogue clock so relays behind the tachometer are a baffling concept. My relay seems fine, my fuse seems fine, my rear bulbs are working external of the circuit board, I can't figure out where my front turn signal bulbs even are...

I only know about the typ85s, but I suspect it would behind your clock. I think they put the relay up high so you could better hear the signal click
