Default Up-date, and a 4KCS for sale . . .

The last couple of days have been eventful.

On Sunday I looked at a 1987 4000 CS quattro, not really looking to buy, but, as Sir Edmund Hilary said of Everest, 'because it was there'.

The car belongs to a customer of mine, and I understand it has a salvage title; he did not explain why nor did I see any overt symptoms of it having been pranged.

The description: silver w/ grey interior, Ronals, ski rack. The car needs, well, it needs a lot; tyres, some body & interior work, wind screen. The car is said to run well when it's warm, but lacks a cold-start sensor or some-such. Most of all it needs a friend . . .

I am guessing the mecahnicals are the best part . . .

The fellow quoted me $700 as is, where is, and that's Black Forest, CO, about 15 minutes north-east of Colorado Springs. I think a little creative bartering could bring the car into the $400 - $500 range.

Please e-mail me for his contact info, but keep in mind, it is NOT my car, and I'm only offering the tip. I have nothing to do with its ownership or sale. (A scan MAY be available later this week, if I get motivated . . .)

On to my Coupe'. On Monday I dropped off two BBSs and paid for the set of 205/50-15 Falkens. Those two are now mounted and only wait for the car, which has the other two wheels in the boot.

The work'll be done by the end of the day, and a scan should be available by Thursday. (The camera's on holiday in Vegas . . .)

The other bright spot of the day was the arrival of the antenna bits from Raul of AntennaWorld.com.

Aaron Meisner, aka AaronBalto, provided me with his spare Fuba manual extraction antenna & Raul sent me the mounting hardware.

When I got home I pulled out the tacky (and broken-in-transit) after-market antenna, and stuck in the factory Audi antenna. What a difference!

The reception is good, but the car LOOKS like it's supposed to! What an improvement. Thanks guys . . .

One more thing. There was a crease in the driver's door when the car came off the transporter three weeks back, and no damage to the door had been noted in the bill of lading upon loading.

When it came off the truck it was the first thing I saw, except perhaps for the Ansa exhaust. ;')

The broker jerked me around a little, and the truck owner dismissed the claim out-of-hand, saying it wasn't their fault.

After weeks of wrangling (and getting the crease dealt with by a brilliant paintless dent-removal guy) the broker provided me with the truck owner's insurance info.

I called the insurance agent to set up an Acord, and he told me filing the form would cost his client $800 and increased rates!

The agent also called the truck owner with this news and, not surprisingly, the truck owner opted to pay me rather than pay $800 for the set-up of a claim, and incresed rates in the future.

The cheque should arrive today . . .

I hope he's learned not to load cars in the dark, or to mess with a fired-up Audi enthusiast!

Default Ansa is junk, read why

Ansa was once a great name in performance mufflers. They almost invented the black-crinkle-finish-with-dual-chrome-tips look. Used to be good steel, good fit, long life and better flow.
Something happened to Ansa in the 80's; I think they got absorbed into a conglomerate or something. Poor fit, short life, same flow as stock for a higher price. I know this because Ansa was THE muffler in the Fiat world (after the Abarth supply dried up anyway). Had one on my own Fiat, it was made in the 70s and I just trashed it this year, it finally rotted out. I've sold and used Ansa (modern) and am disappointed in how it has become cheap junk.
The tips are nice....you can buy those seperately and put them on your custom system. But I wouldn't blow the cash for Ansa exhaust.

Default Bosal and Ansa, same thing?

Just wondering, cuz on PMC they list both, and I kinda thought they were both the same thing.
Anybody know for sure?

Default Nooooo...totally different

Bosal has a lifetime warantee on their mufflers, and is what comes stock on the 4kq's. Ansa is a 'quick fix' muffler that lasts about 2 years.

Default Maybe, but . . .

. . . it was on the car when I bought it, so I'm not actually out anything, and I like the look / sound.

I'll check the receipts that came with the car to see how long it's been there.

I have a scan of the car from beneath as it was being unloaded from the top rack of the transporter, and I can post it tomorrow evening.

By the by, the Falkens are on the BBS wheels, and the wheels are on the car, but instead of putting the BBS centres on the tyre shop put on the black lug caps and the Audi ring black plastic hub centres from the Ronals!

After a few miles I'll share my impressions . . .

. . . coming off the transporter.

The Ansa thing looks okay to me, and again, the price was right.

By the way, I bought an extra set of rear badges on eBay and may paint them gloss red to match the car.
