warped brake rotors....

is there anything that can be done to straighten them out again? I put ATE Powerdiscs on my '86 4kq about 8 months ago, and now they've become warped. I was told it could be because of overtightened wheel bolts... hmmm never had that happen before, but anyway is there anything I can do, other than live with warped rotors or replacing them? Thanks for any input!

I don't know if you can turn powerdiscs or not. I would guess not, but you could always ask your local exhaust/brakes/parts store.
The key is getting even torque on all your lugs, so that there is even pressure. Invest in a torque wrench. If you rotate the tires yourself, you need it.

Thats the main cause for warped rotors. Especially in 8 months.. Sorry, you cannot turn slotted or drilled rotors. Its also possible to warp rotors by driving through large puddles if they are still hot.

Tighten the wheel evenly in a star pattern, and don't tighten the first one all the way, just snug, (until you do the rest)or even with a torque wrench it will be tighter than the rest. Make sure the hub surface is clean! and the rotor back is free of debris. If you do this, most "warped" rotors aren't warped, it is an imbalance of bedded in pad material from impropper break in procedures.

It's definitely time for a better torque wrench. Mine's crappy. I know about the tightening procedures, and I've been following those religiously so far, that's why I was kinda confused...
I'll check to see if there's any build up of dirt and such where it's not supposed to be....

I don't know if you have access to one, but it would be interesting to see which rotor is actually warped, and how much.
You could have a caliper slide binding on one side. Especially if you have been using a torque wrench, or at least are mindful to tighten evenly.

it's on the front that's for sure. I guess, I could take one off and find a really flat surface, like a glass table top which should be pretty close to flat and see if it's off. Oh well, I wonder if it's worth the trouble. I guess I'll live with it until the next time I have to put rotors on.
