What else could cause hard starting?
I've replaced the starter, so now it turns over, and i've replaced cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. However each time I go to start it when its cold (the engine not the air) I have to try forever. Finally one or two will fire and then it will sputter to life and run great.
I want a turn key car! Especially since I have a zero hour class.
What other components should looked over? I can't find my bentley

Cold start valve gets a bad rap.. (edited)
Cold start valve gets a bad rap, as it's not *that* important to starting. Remember the cod start valve *only* works when cranking (if even required).
If you are having running/drivability problems AFTER the motor starts, then it's not the cold start valve causing your problem.
I know someone that doesn't even have the cold start wire on his starter, and he hasn't noticed yet. :-)
(yet still, Audi put it there for a reason, so it should work. Just don't get hung up on it, to the excusion of other things that can also cause problems)
What IS important for cold starting (or to be more accurate, the time between the motor firing up, and it getting warmed up) is that the mixtue is rich enough when starting. That's set by the ECU via the coolant temp sensor.
Higher resistance = richer mixture
Therefor, Open circuit= Really rich
Easy to try: Pull the coolant temp sender connector off the sender (The one on the housing at the head end of the top rad hose, with the metal clip that you have to press to remove), and try a cold start. See if that helps. If so, you have a clue. IF not, further investigation required..
I've seen similar caused by using the 'inexpensive' Bosch Platinum plugs. Threw in a set of Champions, and fired right up. Could be weak spark.. Get a nice blue spark from a plug, or kind of a weenie looking yellow spark?
Could be lots of things...

I'll agree here
The coolant temp sensor that fed the signal to the CSV on my old JT was bad and the car still started up and ran fine. The car should start fine even with the CSV not working (as long as the temperature isnt too low).

Is it me who doesnt have the CSV wire on the starter?
I have ghost wiring so i assume i bypassed some circuit in my haste to get it to start...
What i think i will do is pull the CSV and test it, and replace the coolant temp. sensor and throw in a new set of plugs.
Now would be the time for the "Jeez you're an idiot and this is why it isnt working" moment
