Default What would cause my clutch to "squeal"?

As I'm slowing down to come to a stop...right after i down shift and let back off the the clutch...i hear a high pitched scraping. I do believe that whatever is rubbing up against my clutch is that weird smell I've been smelling...a slight relief since my electrical is not burning up now lol.

Default Throwout bearing perhaps?

If its the sound I think it is, usually squeals when its on its last legs when you let off the clutch starting in 1st. Sounds like its time for a new clutch, its likely the 20+ year old original. Can't complain it wore out prematurely.

Default Something rubbing?

I'm wondering if something is rubbing on some part of the driveline or the motor, as things move when you downshift hard?

When you do a hard 'deacceleration', with the motor slowing you down, maybe something in the motor/trans/driveline shifts enough for something to rub on something that moves?

Try accelerating hard in 1st gear, then letting off hard and see if you get the same noise as when you downshift hard..

If it's because someting is moving: Could be up front where the alternator and crank pulley is close to the body. Could have something caught somewhere (branch of stick?). Exhaust rubbing on somtting?

THe possiblilities are endless! :-)

Maybe get te car up and scope out for anything that moves for contact with something?

Default More like a pig....

I guess the sound would be similar to the sound a caster on a chair makes when it needs to be greased.
