Default What's with the doors on these cars?

First, the power locks will not work unless I'm inside the car, next the passanger side front door will not open from the outside, now the drivers side rear door has nearly lost its outside handle and will only open from the inside. What's next, leave the windows down so I can crawl in when the driver's door fails?

Are they all this bad? what is the common failure and is it a tough fix?

Any help is appreciated, TIA
Ray

Default welcome to the woderful wild world of the type 85

yes they should act like that if not taken care of. The first thing I did when I baught my car was order new door handles. Do not get the cheap *** ones from france, they are not worth the hassle. I have no idea why your pl only work from the inside. I can give you some advice about the doors though. You need to lube them at least 3 times a year. I do mine at the begining of every season. For the rears you do not have to remove the inside door card. First screw is behind the silver strip, second is behind the black plug inside the door jam. Remove and thoroughly blast down with PB blaster. For the fronts you can just remove the front door cards and spray them from there. if your gonna leave the windows down you will need an old jacket or towl to shut in the door incase it rains. Had to due this before during window failures.

Default Do you mean you can't lock your power locks without a key?

Becasue with mine I have to use a key and the door has to be closed in order for me to lock the doors from the outside. I'm assuming it's a safety feature, so you'll never lock your keys out of your car.

That's right. All german cars have the "you can't lock your keys in the car dumkopf!" feature.

Default Nope, they will not lock with or without a key unless I'm inside.

then if I put the driver's side button down, they all lock like thay are supposed to.

Thanks, I'll try to lube them after I see how they work.
