If you own a pre '85 Audi, look at the production
sticker in the drivers side door jamb. What's the name of the manuafacurer?
On the cover: Mercedes and Auto Union (note the 4 rings on the nose) streamliners on the banking at Avus (pronounced: ahvoos). They were hitting 240mph(!!!) on the straights with cotton ply natural rubber tires!!
Speeds were so high that the front ends were lifting off the GROUND!!!!!

Seen here at Donnington Oct.'38, left to right are:
Seaman-Mercedes W-154, von Brauchitsch-Mercedes W-154 (he died recently),
Nuvolari-Auto Union D-type, known as: "the great little man" (he saved Auto Union in '38 after Rosemeyer died doing 270mph! on the autobhan in a record breaking attempt)
And Lang-Mercedes w-154

Besides. I have a good grasp on the history of Audi. I even made it a point to attend MH99. Reading about the cars in books and seeing, hearing and smelling that 6 wheel 16 cylinder hillclimb car are two different things. Not to mention a personal correspondence from Michele Mouton IRT the UPG party I'm throwing.!
"if you really had *****, you'd race back DOWN the hill"
Michele Mouton on Pikes Peak

I have never been exposed to 'jerky boys' but what I have heard of them would lead me to believe they're the epitome of low-brow, crass, mindless humour, if humour is indeed the right word.
Ergo my discomfiture with the term . . .
