Hello everyone! Recently I picked up an 86 Audi 4000 S sedan. It’s in good shape and I even got it running after it sat for 10 years! The main problem I have at this point is there’s a big hole in the windshield.
Does anyone know where to get a windshield? the local junkyard has two Jetta’s ones and 87 and the others and 89. Are Jetta and Audi 4000 windshields interchangeable? They look the same to me… if I can get a windshield in it I will proceed with the rest of the restoration but don’t want to go too deep if I am stuck with no windscreen.
thanks in advance.
also if anyone needs info the car came with a Bentley shop manual!
Cheers,
Joe
Dang, that's a beaut! I've been looking for a windshield for years. I've found a few, but thought the price was too much, then years go by and I find another one for double the price of the last one. They are out there, but you'll pay handsomely for it. There's no other car that has a compatible windshield, sadly. The other option is a custom windshield maker. They'll find a windshield with the right curves and then cut it down to size. I haven't looked into it recently, but I bet it would be comparable to what people are asking for NOS ones.
I still have a 4000 windshield sitting in a closet providing shelter for mice and fodder for my wife to accuse me of being a hoarder. As my Bentleys manual is tattered and inevitably missing the page I need, if anyone is traveling through Salt Lake, I’d be happy to exchange the windshield for a complete Bentley’s manual.
Yes! Exactly like that. What we should do is some type of group buy or open order where a bunch of us can all get windshields. I'd be in for at least two. My car has needed one for 23 years and I'd absolutely want a spare, as the universe will always get you sooner or later.
Someone local to one of those places would probably have to take the lead since they'll likely have to have a windshield physically there to work from.
I have only found 2 places online who may have a windsheild. One is in ny for 450 plus shipping( if they have it). And the other is in ca for 1100!
The rubber moulding seems obtainable and it’s 150 on rock auto.
Still hunting for a parts car in a 200 mile range from me.
Thought I would leave this here for posterity. We're all having to move more towards repairing parts rather than being able to replace them, and it's only going to get worse, sadly.
