Default A little off base man...

See my above post. It explains in more detail what's going on, and is unrelated to the speed of the clutch disks and transmission.

Default It's possible, but...

More than likely it is a CSV issue. When that 'extra' injector isn't working right, you will get longer crank times. A bad ISV when starting will start right away, but sputter...as has been my experience. Vacuum leaks from old hoses are another big source of starting issues.

hey audisport4000, did you try disconnecting the isv and upping the idle?

i have this same exact problem in my 1989 audi 89 5 spd except mine sometimes goes so low it stalls, i tried so many diff things and nothing works. I EVEN CLEANED THE ISV ABOUT 5 Times.
