Default "shorty" Audi power antenna problems..........

antenna does not fully retract when radio is turned off, but does fully extend when radio is turned on. I don't think that the mast is bent, maybe just needs some type of lube. Any recommendation on how to fix?
Thanks...........Rooster

Default The flexible cord piece inside the mast may have broken a bit?

Otherwise, try graphite first, or a lithium grease. Something that won't harden up (lith may over time?).

I replaced my factory antenna with an internal, amp'd unit, from antenna world. Cost was around $30. Had to do that, as some shmuck cut the mast off while the car sat outside the apartment two summers ago.

I pulled mine years ago, and replaced it with the internal mount from a 1992 Honda Accord...and the actual antenna is off a 2000 Honda S2000.

Default Thanks guys,,,,,,,,will try some lube, ..........

if that doesn't work, I will disconnect the power to the antenna when it is extended in the "up" position. I have never had much success with a power antenna. Eventually, they always get dirty, get bent, or for some reason, just won't work properly. Gotta think that it is best to replace with a non-electric unit..........Rooster

Default I left the base and all of the wiring installed, as I have two amplifiers installed to drive

two 6.5" woofers and a single 8" woofer. Otherwise, I would have capped the hole with something (plastic cap?)...

FM reception is quite good. I can pick up most radio stations in a 50-70mi range (depending on station wattage and such). I don't use AM very much, but my dad drove the car for a few days and really only listens to AM. It doesn't do quite as well as the factory, mainly due to the size of the arms.

Install was pretty easy, remove a-pillar trim to run the wires up, remove the under-dash shelf/cover to fish the power, switch, and antenna leads. The wires are thin enough that they get stuffed into the windshield trim. Grounding location is one of the screw holes for the inboard drivers visor, as it goes right into the inner roof sheet metal.

sounds easy enough to install, if my "shorty" has gone south, I will get one.
