I could have burned my garage to the ground lastnight. I finally got everything removed, cleaned, replaced, and put back on the car, and got that filler neck pipe hooked back up (what a PITA) thought I got everything together and bolted back up.
I poured one quart of tranny fluid in ....listen....nothing. Sweet! Pour another one in *splash* all over my garage floor from all four sides of the pan. How do I get that thing to stay in place. It appears to be just a bit small, but barely, and it almost fits the form of the pan to a tee.
Any hints or tips would be great.
Thanks,
Chris

i did this 2 weeks ago , probably wasted 20+ dollars on tranny fluid, theres some Grey RTV silicone gasket sealant, take it all off, wipe off the surfaces, and run a small bead of it on both sides , TIP: theres a 19mm bolt at the top of the filler tube you can loosen to make the filler tube much easier to put on, then just try really hard to make sure the gasket stays in place, dont overtighten the bolts, good luck, it was a heavenly feeling when i got finished, ATF was in my hair, i ended up throwing away a couple articles of clothing, but it was done..... good luck keep me posted

bother to try and do myself. Looks way too messy and hard to get at without some serious jackstand action...
I prefer to have the local Audi wrench deal with thise one!

I've posted about this exact problem. What a pain in the @$$! I actually had to solve this with two people. After we got the car lifted to the highest we could with jackstands, we put a floor jack under the tranny pan, and as we raise it the two of us would each take a side (front and back) and make sure that the gasket doesn't jump out of place. You've probably noticed this already, but the gasket would barely clear the internals of the tranny. So be patient, and hopefully this would help you out.
Good luck,
Wilson.

Same here. I wish that i can do it myself but i hear all these horror stories and i prefer to pay my Audi mechanic for the job. I don't even have a decent garage.

Well, all i did was stretch that thing out to the point that I thought I was going to snap it like a rubber band. I then slapped it on the pan and rolled myself under the car (I did this with no one else around). Bolted it up, hooked up the dipstick tube and poured fluid in and waited for leaks, but none came. So I poured some more in and away I went.
How much fluid is supposed to go into the tranny?
