An O1E can be done... 6 speed. lot more spendy though. 5 speed stick with one from a 200 or possibly S4. everyone seems to use a 200 or oe V8 one tho. you need a lot of parts to do it, and a welder. Motorgeek had a writeup on it. germanautoconnection.com has a parts list needed.

When my autotragic dies i am also going to do the same. i have cut the shift lever tunnel area out of a 5000s along with the shifter and 5 speed 016 trans. i got the 5000 axles, 5000 driveshaft too. i believe i need the back portion of it to mate with the v8 front half. i have the pedal set from the 5000 also but am not sure if it is the same as the 100/200 that is said to be used. I also need the one of the v8 speed oem transmission bracket to make it bolt in. i am not sure if i have the right parts so far either but am hoping i am close.

016 from the 5kq (NON-turbo, 1987.5-1988)
016 from the 200q20v
016 from the V8q 5spd (get the oil cooler lines)
01E from the '92-96 S4/S6 (shifter & mounts different)
Please note that unless you get V8q 5spd factory trans mounts, you will need to make spacers for the passenger side mount. It's around 0.5" to 0.75" thick, and 1 to 1 1/4" bolt spacing, so it makes it very tight getting a bolt through the mount and the spacer block.

You need 200q20v axles (or V8q 5spd) and a 200 tunnel (the 100q uses an 01A transmission, so it's tunnel is different). Or waaay mod the V8 tunnel to accept the 5kq shifter. The pedal assembly is the same, if I would have known that it would have saved me money on my swap. Adam Mowafy and Brad W. used the V8's tunnel and modified it to accept a 5kq shifter.
BTW, locker hardware/control valve is a MUST in the winter time. My V8 is basically RWD in the snow 75% of the time and FWD 25% of the time. I didn't have a chance to grab the control valve stuff out of my old 5kq yet...

i did happen to grab the swithc for the locker, i am guessing it ties into the engine's vaccum line. i did forget to grab the blue hose that i think is a return line for the clutch pedal, i remember it had a tee on the opposite end. i am guessing it ties into the hydralics somehow. i was also thinking i would mock up everything in the parts v8, i have a 3.6 to mate and then i can fab the trans mount and cut the tunnel and weld in the 5k shifter. once it is fabbed i can move it over and tack it all in the 93 v8.

Yes, you need a vac source. There are vacuum switches on the brake and clutch pedal for the cruise control, not the diff lock stuff. Diff lock stuff only had a vacuum switch to kill the ABS. No hydraulic tees, it was a totally vacuum operated system...
