Default 1991 Audi V8 quattro 5 speed clutch pedal stuck on floor

My V8 clutch pedal stuck to the floor on I-80 today when I down shifted from 5th to 4th. And It would not go back in gear and so I had it towed home.

I'm thinking clutch master and clutch slave cylinders need to be replaced. I have a Shop manual, but it's for a 1990 and has no info on 5 speed cars. Where is the slave and how do you get to it?

Also the clutch pedal could of broken were the master cylinder clevis attaches to the pedal. If it's just one of the cylinders look for fluid loss from the bellhousing and reservoir that would mean it's the slave if not then it's more likely master. Of course replacing both may be a good idea too. My BTDT on broken pedal failure. http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.p...=broken+clutch

I see the clutch master cylinder with a blue hose coming out of it has some crusty looking junk on it like old oil or brake fluid. I see the clutch pedal is acutually made out of plastic and could break as you suggest, but I can't see anything broken.

You probably won't be able to see if it's broken until you remove the master. The pedal is made from metal not plastic. Also check the hose that runs from the hard line to the slave.

Ordered parts from www.rockauto.com for the Audi. Anything else I'm going to need to change the clutch slave and master cylinders?

Also ordered a fuel pressure regulator because the car surges very lightly when cruising and accelearating, so hopefully that will fix it.

Here's my list of parts.

You should be ok if the hose is good and the pedal isn't broken.

I found a link you posted for the Audi V8 quattro shop manual in pdf format: http://152.66.93.29/audi/download/V8...%20Manuals.zip
Audi V8
Audi V8 Repair Manual <<< - Thx Viridia

It had the info on 5 speed V8's I've been looking for. Specifically how to get the clutch slave bled and where it's located.

And I clicked on your link of your clutch pedal thread and see that it is in fact metal and can break. I do believe mine is ok now that i've got it up off the floor and it is working, but not consistantly.

I don't have anything of any use to add since Austin seemed to have covered it.....I just wanted to say I have seen this car before when it was in Ohio.....thats all.

Not sure if this car ever got an ABT chip? easy enough to crack the ECU open and check.

All so, the only reason I know of this thread is cause I was over Austin's house last night to do my o2 sensor on the convert...(90 V8Q 5sp) and he showed me this thread. I instantly recognized the car....but I wanted to say,
Audiworld doesn't get the traffic it usta get. U would b better served to post on audifans and sign up on the V8 list. Hope to c u posting up there soon about the car.
I have two V8Q 5sp's and there fantastic cars! No body loves these V8's like I do!!!!

OK, thanks Ron I'll join up on Audifans. I bought the car from a used car lot in Cleveland last October 2010. The salesman said a guy traded it in for a truck. He had it for sale on Craigslist. The original window sticker and dealer brochure was in the trunk. I flew out and drove it home. I've been driving it to work and it's an amazing car. Love it!

If it's chipped it wouldn't surprise me. It's pretty quick.

I'd like to have another V8 5 speed. Even a conversion would be cool. Do you know where any are for sale? I've flown out to get one before and I may do it again!

Thanks,

Bob Clark
