5000 stereo system....advice/anwers
87 quattro 5000cs, if i replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket head unit, bypassing the amp and headphone jack and all that jazz and keep the factory speakers throughout the car, will the sound quality be poor or will it be alright. Does anyone have a system like this and have any feedback?

Hi, I don't think there's an amp in that system. Just a regular +/- hook up...could be wrong, it might be like the bose system in newer models with a common ground for all speakers. Anyhow, if you keep the factory speakers, they will sound ok, but they will distort under high volume from the new stereo, assuming it's one of the generic aftermarket ones. Stick with the quality german stereo, there's none better I wish my bose system still worked. Perhaps you can achieve some what of a good sound, comparable to the factory one, with good a component speaker(midrange+tweeter+crossover network) package like mbquart. I had to rewire my whole car to use an aftermarket stereo. Sound is powerfull, but no where close to the true stereo imagery bose managed to put in it, it's a 91 audi 200 turbo. Anyhow, good luck

Incorrect. There is an amp for the rear spkrs. You will have to bypass this. I've done it...
and the system sounds just okay. Would be good to have back the bass that was there with the amp.
