89 200TQ, "stuck" decel valve, unsticking?

OK, I'll admit I've been a little lazy lately, and haven't had a chance to remove my decel valve. Damn that thing's a PITA to get to. Anyways, I plugged off the large air hose that comes off of it, and car runs / idles great. The stealership wants ~$180 for the part, SJM wants $140, which is more reasonable. Anyways, on to my question. What have people's experiences been with unsticking this valve? Does it just get dirty and clogged? Do I have a reasonable chance of cleaning it out and re-using it, or should I just order a new one? What would be the best way to get to the valve? I can see it through the fender well after removing the splash guard, but still looks like a pain to work with. I'd like to install a K&N air filter that I ordered, would it be easier to get to if I disassembled the air box assembly (assuming that I need to do that to replace the air filter)? Thanks in advance

in my case, I think it's a sticky controller, as after a long run on the highway, the car will stall if I take my foot off the gas. If I have momentum, I can bump-start it, but it will continue to die when it goes to idle. If I turn the key off and then restart the car, it will idle fine again (of course, I'd never recommend turning off the key while moving). It seems to be a sticky relay/control unit somewhere...it's not annoying enough for me to pull out the Bentley...yet.
Cheers!
Cheers!
