Default advantage of mc2 cam over mc1 cam?

I have some fairly bad lifter tick that isnt going to be solved by anything short of new lifters. So i was thinking of getting an mc2 cam. I remember someone posting some dyno graphs of the blau cam not outperforming the mc2 in the top end due to blowby and some thoughts on it really being an NA cam and not a turbo cam originally.

I cant seem to find this post now, So i was wondering if there was a consensus if the MC2 is better than the MC1.

If I remember reading correctly what was posting by some people that knew what they were talkign about;

mc2>blau>mc1 but not a huge differce. Would it be advantageous to upgrade to a mc2?

thanks,
Paul

Default you can upgrade to an MC2, but unless you have a lot of other mods,

i odn't think you'll see that big of a gain. Combine that with the rarity of the MC2 stuff, it's not worth the trouble. Are you running chipped CIS? if so, the blau cam works fine for that. it's the EFI applications where you get into trouble with the blow thru.

if you can get an MC2 for nothing or very little, by all means. go for it.

Default birdmanmt, see what u think about my mods and the mc2

I have chiped and springed system right now. I am in the process of adding larger intercooler, and switching to a k24 turbo and will soon shim the cis pressure up a tad. I'll probably then try and increase pressure and see where that goes. I've got an extra injector setup sitting around which If I havnt reached 18-19psi by CIs alone I intend to install for that extra fuel if needed, hopefully not.

My goal is a reliable 18 psi, and very fast spool up. I am not making a track car, I will likely never even take it to the track.

The mc2 is $60.

Default well....

for fast spool up, k24 is good.

larger IC isn't always better, more efficient IC always is. make sure it's a good IC, not just bigger.

for what you want, an MC2 cam for $60 is pretty cheap. for that price i'd get it jsut to have to swap in and see if there's a noticable difference. you can always sell it and get your money back or make a little at that price.

what's the application of all this? mc1 i'm assuming....doing other stuff like exhaust i hope too?

Default Re: well....

yeah its an 87 5ktq mc1. The intercooler is a huge single pass I got for cheap on ebay. It is fairly thin 1 7/8 with a very very large frontal surface area. So i'd assume fairly efficient, but total SA when considering depth makes it about 2 times as large as the stock intercooler if i remember correctly. It was cheap and if I dont like it i'll try something else, maybe a single pass conversion of the stock unit. Also have a bypass valve waiting to be installed. Yes exhaust was in my plans forgot to mention that. Probably just a custom weld up from a muffler shop, i'm on a tight budget so I cant be ordering all form fit performance exhasut parts for big $$ right now.

After taking a look at the k24 map it looks like at 18psi, or so at redline the k24 would be maxed out. But since this is going to be a street car I dont suspect it will too big a deal since most of the time i'll just be cruising with it anyhow.

Do you know the actual difference int he mc1 and mc2 cams? like duration and lift measurements. I'll probably get the mc2 and give it a try.

thanks,
Paul
