Default Alternator belt blues

I just threw my third alternator belt in a month. I just changed the alternator about a month ago. Any guesses? Pulley alignment?

Default Just a guess .....

Could it be your tighting it too much? You have to be able to turn it 90 degrees for it to be good!

Default Re: Alternator belt blues

Also just a wild guess. A friend of mine started to go through belts like crazy after he changed his timing belt. It turned out to be a chipped pulley which cut through the belts rather quickly.

Hope that helps,

Wilson.

could be you are buying cheapo belts, get a gates or a conti-tech, and do not overtighten

Default I agree with the alignment and also quite possibly the pulley is not metric.

Happened to me last month when I changed alternators, pulley was different. I used the original pulley and have had no problems since.
