Default Curious... What's the benefit of having a 6spd over a 5spd?

The 6spd is an 01E, right? ...so it's a strong unit, but why is it worth swapping in over the stock 016? (assuming the stock box was not broken) ...or a solid, late-production 5spd 01E?

A TDI based 6 speed was installed yielding higher 5th and 6th gears. I don't think I'd go to the expense of putting a 6 speed with a .73 6th gear in place of the 016 with a .73 5th gear.

Default very tall 5th and 6th gears: DQT ratios: 3.50 1.89 1.32 0.87 0.67 0.56

My 5th gear is taller than most 6th gears out there in, say a B5, B6, B7 A4 or S4 with 6MT.
My 4th gear is even taller than most of the 4th gears out there.

Hmm, 2200 RPMs at 80 mph and 3000 rpms at 100 mph are "benefits."

Having the only so-equipped car in the Western Hemisphere: priceless. ;-)

thanks Scott

Default Well, I know it's always nice to have something unique, but I also appreciate practicality.

Thanks for clearing that up. The 5th gear on my V8 avant(0.84) is just slightly taller than your 4th gear. Nice.
