Default battery draw testing

I hooked my multimeter inline with the battery (no, not directly to it) on the highest setting it goes up to and it blew the fuse, which means the car is drawing more than 315mA while off. I wanted to hook the multimter up and pull fuses to try to see what is drawing from the battery, but I guess this means I'll have to buy a new multimeter or find some other way to measure it. Any ideas?

Default Try it the other way (after you replace the fuse in the DMM)

Pull all the fuses out of the fuse box (noting which ones go where first - got a Poloroid?), then hook up the DMM. Then put the fuses back in one at a time, noting which one(s) causes the increase in current draw. The only one you should expect to see an increase on is the clock circuit, mebbe one other but I'm coffee deprived this morning.

Default Re: battery draw testing

I bought my car with a battery drain they said that if left set for two days the battery would be dead, the car had been stored for some time and then I bought it and use it almost daily. It has not been a problem since not even a hint. I did do some checking and found that with the ignition off I was drawing about 60-70mA. I am not sure if this includes the drain that kills the battery or just the clock and other small stuff.

I thought I would give you at least a ballpark figure of the draw.

Also, your meter might have a fuse in it, mine does, both one for the 10 Amp and another for the rest.

For what it's worth.
