Pull it out, take off the cover and inspect the circuit board for cold solder joints, and see if the relay contacts are welded shut.
Best to just grab one from a junkyard.

can see readily. Yes, if you know how to get in to it, by all means.
It certainly would ahve been nice if Audi put in a regular volmeter, oil press etc.

...I had the same problem with my 5ktq. Could drive all day but the secong i shut it off it was dead. Had the battery and alt tested at Interstate and everything was aok, problem was the battery cable was so bad that only a enough current to run accesories but not enought to engage the starter. The second you gave it a jump it was fine.
