Default BMW vs Audi comparison.....

Well now that I have finally gotten my 533i legally plated and insured (what a fiasco that was to get a title for a New Hampshire "non-titled" vehicle in Michigan..lots of paperwork) I have driven the the bimmer the past few days. I really appreciate the rear wheel drive handling and could tell I must have been getting pretty used to it today when drove the Audi for the first time since Wednesday. Wow, is the Audi a big heavy car or what!? The 200 is still way more comfortable and refined (also 7 years newer), but it sure feels alot heavier now after driving the bimmer for a few days.

Well, oddly enough the 200s I've driven seem a lot more refined than a family member's '03 325cci I've been behind the wheel of. But, I think the 44-types are amazing cars. Feels faster than my ST165, even though on paper the 200 is heavier by about 100 pounds, and has about 30 less horsepower and torque than the Celica (I think 200Q 10v is at around 162/170, and the Celica is 190/190). Strange, no?

Yes i agree the audi is more refined than the bimmer, but to me sure feels heavy. I'm surprised to hear a type 44 feels faster than a celica, perhaps it is chipped or the celica isn't running as it should? Of course the Audi torque comes on at a lower rpm perhaps giving a better seat of the pants feel under most driving conditions... Who knows, seems strange regardless.

I drove '90 735 and it feels really heavy, like driving a tank or armoured vehicle. I drove my friends '90 Passat its totally different story, feels like my previous Subaru Legacy, very light.
My 100 is somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, Ihad a passat (1990) for a while. A very tossable car, very "crisp". I've heard people complain about the lack of power from the 16V passat engine but it seemed peppy enough to me at the time. I can't say anything about the 7-series bimmer other than i'm not surprised. I think 90 ws one of the first of that body and it was getting pretty fat. especialy the 735iL anmd 750iL. Huge cars.

Yea. I'll admit the GT-Four has issues, though. Quick, but not too quick from what I can say. Part of the reason why I'm trying to get a 44.

It's not surprising to me that a 44 should seem quicker than a Celica... granted I am comparing against a GT-S (135 HP) that I used to own before I became infected with the Audi virus. Even turbocharged, it seems that a lot of 44s ended up chipped to 1.8 bar (even one I drove on a used car lot) and when set up as such, it seems likely that a Celica alltrac would seem weak by comparison. When pushing 16 psi the 5ktq launches like a catapult IMHO...

Default Audi weight and size

Several years ago I parked my '86 5KTQ next to a Lincoln Continental (about a '96). I noticed it was only about 4 inches shorter than the Lincoln.
When I got home, I did a weight comparison on the web. The Audi came in at about 3500 pounds and the Lincoln about 3700. (You will see published weights of about 2800 pounds. This does not include options like Quattro and Air Conditioning as they are not "Standard") Who'd have thunk it? An Audi within a few hundred pounds of a Lincoln Continental?

Times change. I was reading a web article yesterday about Porsche/Chey conversions. It seems that the new Chevy LT-1 V-8 is about 100 pounds lighter than a Porsche turbo 6.

The new LT1 better be a new LS1 or LS2, since the LT1 hasn't been in a new production car for something like 6 years ;-)
