I've posted in the past about my blower motor troubles. The blower is new (ie less than 3 years old). on the hotest days it goes to high for about 1 second and then goes back to normal speed.

I just discovered that my a/c charge is low (I get no reading on the compressor port when the CC on "auto")

I think the previous owner had some work done on the system roughly 10 years ago and the low pressure switch was jumpered. I found a suspicious looking pig tail approximately where the low pressure switch is supposed to be under the rain gutter on the passenger side.

so my question is: does low refrigerant pressure prevent the high speed blower from working? I'm too lazy to look in Bentley, but may find some time this week.

A/C charge should have no effect on the blower. You may be having a problem with the blower control unit or even the cc head. I'd run the codes for the climate control.

if you mean the thing with a heatsink on the passenger side under the rain cover, I bought a brand new one and there's no difference with either old or new

Did you check that there's power to the connections on top of that device?
