A/C Compressor Clutch Q:
Is it available without buying the Whole compressor?
My pulley is coming apart and making a rattling noise. Compressor seems quiet.

clutch bearing failure...BTDT.
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/38606/ac_clutch_bearing4.jpg"></center><p>If you have a NipponDenso compressor, then you need a new clutch bearing.
(Nachi P/N: 40BG05S1G-2DS-J)
I got mine from Action Bearing in Allston/Brighton.
~$35.
Pull off the clutch pulley and press out/in the bearing cartridge. Extractor can be 'borrowed' from an Autozone. I pressed the bearing with large washers, spacers, big nut and bolt and large sockets.

How'd you get them apart?
I n the photo the right (nearest) is the front minus the pulley? or the back of the assembly?
Thanks in Advance TIA

Yeah, the piece on the right of the photo is the piece that goes in front of the pulley. The pulley at the left of the photo.
Remove the drive belt.
Hold the front piece stationary, remove the lock nut.
To pull the front piece off, you need an extractor. JC Whipmey used to sell one for japanese compressors for about $10. I don't know if they still carry it.
Last time I was in Autozone, I saw it listed as one of their loner tools.
It's threaded into the opening and then its central bolt pushes against the compressor shaft.
Once loose, just pull the rest of the way off.
Careful of the 2-3 spacers between it and the shaft. These set the gap between the front piece and the mating pulley.
The pulley can now be wiggled out. If there's rust, you may need a 3-jaw puller.
