The car has 276K on it, and overall is in very good condition. Noticed today a blue puff of smoke coming from the exhaust after the car remained idling in park for about 20 minutes.
The car has been using about 1/2 quart of oil per tank to tank in a half. Which is not good.
I've thought that it was possibly that the head was in need of a bit of refreshing (seals, valve, etc) but now i think that i might be in more of a bind.
If i remember correctly if the seals in the head are gone the car will burn oil after high revving (RPMS) since the oil will move to the top of the motor.
So, long story short, i think that the motor needs to be replaced/rebuilt.
Any thoughts...

on the older Audi's, i've mostly seen the valve seals dry up and let oil seap past, but it usually only does it after the car has sat off for a while, and the oil drianed from the head into the combustion chamber. Best guess might just be a compression/ leakdown test.

I haven't really noticed it on startup.
Do you think if while idling, the seals could be leaking that badly, at idle when warm, you can see blue tint to the exhaust.
I actually have a compression tester, I'll have to put that on it this weekend.

R u guys using miles or kilometers?
I have an 1986 audi wagon turbo quattro with 298,965km. It does smoke a little but the exhaust has multiple opens throughout.ie cat. muffler holes.
How many miles is expected? or how many kilometers are expected?
