car dies when starting

i have an 85 5000 turbo when i start it it doesnt want to. i have to hold throttle to keep rpm's up then drive and it is ok then, doesnt die at lights or anything just seems to be on startup. please help i think it is the cis but need some advise. thanks in advance.

Check the temperature sensor at the back of the head. This sensor is used for cold start to tell the ECU to give the car a rich mixture until it gets to operating temperature. As the engine warms up the sensor resistant (ohm) start to go down.

Could be the fuel pump check valve. You'll have to have one of the Betton CIS wizards monitor your residual fuel pressure after shutdown...
Also might be really bad fuel injectors. Again, you'll have to pull the injectors and check spray pattern and fuel amount...
