Looking for some advice on a cold start problem. My 87, 5k has developed a start problem when it is cold. Seems to run ok warming up and when warm. Has stalled a couple of times when first moving car cold. I am thinking cold start valve or warm up valve. Thought fuel pump but ruled out due to it running ok otherwise. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.

If it's not the cold start valve, it could be the thermotime switch (back of the head) which controls the csv.
No warm up valve in the 87 NA, the differential pressure regulator in front of the fuel dist controls the hot & the cold fuel pressures. The cold control pressure may be wrong.

I just found this out today. Is there a way to check it to determine if it is defective. By the way is this the one that is mounted to a bracket back in the rear of the valve cover. Or, the one up front atop of the radiator hose and temp sensor. I have a hayne's man. but very confusing.

The thermotime switch for the cold start valve is mounted in the rear of the cyl head (well below the valve cover).
There is a test procedure outlined in the Haynes. Briefly, undo the coil lead to the dist. and ground it.
Remove connector from the csv and attach a 12v test light. As you crank, see if light goes on and for how long.
