Default clutch pedal problems

Hi everyone,

I have a 91' 20v quattro and I was on my way to school and when i pushed in my clutch pedal, i heard a "click" then my clutch started slipping.

I'm pretty sure that its not my slave cylinder but i think that the problem is in the pedal assembly itself. The clutch acts as if something is preventing the pedal from engaging the clutch completely.

Any thoughts?

I've read that occasionally the clutch pedal lever itself (a casting) breaks. I'd check it closely with a flashlight, while somebody presses on it, to see if any cracks appear when it's pressed.

Clutch pedal pivots on a pair of bushings. If one or both happen to have worn to the breaking point, it might provide the symptoms you doscribe.

this may or may not be part of the problem but where in the hell is the master cylinder for the clutch system or is the clutch cable operated?

Does anyone know where I can download a service manual of this car?

These cars have an unusual clutch hydraulic system: the master clinder is in the footwell and rocks a bit as the clutch pedal moves(!). You'll need a good light when working down there.

Scott Mockry's site is at least as good as a shop manual -- though you'll also need a factory shop manual (published by Bentley). I'm not aware of a downloadable version. Alldata offers a subscription to their online repair info. It's okay, but not as thorough as the Bentley though. It will though get you accurate data immediately.

Scott's clutch section: http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...ns.html#clutch

My new favorite tool is a tiny flashlight that's perfect for tight quarters such as the pedal area: http://rbellew.wordpress.com/2011/02...favorite-tool/

i talked to my boss and he said that these cars have the came pedal assembly as the 944 turbo. His 944 had the same problem. The clutch pedal return spring broke and he said it feels exactly the same as mine does.

Hope thats the problem!

Found out that that isnt the problem most likely!

It may actually be the clutch itself so... That sucks!

Its not that either!!!! DAMN

I am 90% sure that it is the clutch itself.

Does anyone know where I can get a good price for a clutch replacement kit? They are really expensive
