Default Could a noisy fuel pump be a symptom of a plugged fuel filter?

My Avant's pump recently started humming and the filter visibly looks old. I've had the car for 2+ years and haven't changed the filter, nor do I know when it was last replaced. Should I just replace the filter, could replacing it stop the noisy pump? I think I know the answer.

Default Possibly, or

something could be clogging the small intake screen on the bottom of the pump itself. If the noise doesn't go away after changing filters, then I'd check that. Or, perhaps the pump is getting ready to **** the bed on you, as noise sometimes indicates.

mine was noisy recently and it took like 5 cranks to start, i replaced the fuel filter last weekend, now my pump is more quiet it starts as soon as i turn the key.

Also mine looked very old. After i pulled it out i blew into it and it had alot of restriction compared to the new one.

Default what kind of noise? humming, ?

i've noticed the pump in my wife's 85 5K is getting a little loud. I figure it's not a bad idea to start looking now. There are used one's available in junk yards, but what are the chances they'd be any better than mine?

Any good (spelled cheap) sources out there?

Default they may or may not be.

i got a used one and its fine. havent had any issues. new ones go from 160-240 so it's kinda worth paying the 50 used from force5 or 5 from a junkyard and swapping it. you never know.

Default Agree, most likely the fuel pump is going south..........

however, replace the fuel filter first to see if that quiets the pump. If not, replace the pump before it leaves your stranded.
