Dangerous brake situation - 86 Audi 5000 CS TQ
All,
I replaced the J hose going to the brake accumulator on my 5000 (was leaking.) Installed, and topped off fluid, but now I have a power brake issue. Some times (very randomly) I have a situation where I do not have power brakes for up to 2 seconds, meaning that brakes are hard as a rock then the power engages! Very scary a few times I have driven it, but I am going to eat the back of another car soon if I can not resolve it!
Did I miss a bleeder valve when I installed the hose? Any ideas? NO PB problems before replacing the line.

Try discharging the accumulator a few times.
Idle the car for a couple of minutes, shut the engine off and pump brakes until pedal is hard. Start car up and try it again.
Also - check your Bentley manual to see if you've missed a step.
Cheers!

check the power steering fluid level
our cars have a hydroboost system which used the power steering pump to produce the force for power brakes and power steering. if the level goes down, the pump will get air instead of fluid and you will lose all power brakes. steering will remain loose becuse you are moving, but if it happens it slow speeds, the steering will stiffen up as well. my bros 100 does that too, and last time it happened, the reservoir was bone dry.

Re: check the power steering fluid level
Level is OK. This happens randomly, but for a figure lets say every 6 times I press the brakes, one of those times has a 'delay' where when I press the brakes, there is no power assist for up to 2 seconds, then it kicks in.

hmmm...what is 'ok' according to the lines on he outside of the reservior?
when u drive the fluid sloshes around and can open up a path for air when you change speed or direction. add some of the mineral based stuff till its at the max line and see if that helps. in my case, i lost all power brakes and power steering and found the reservior had emptied out completely.

It is a small plastic line that goes inside the j-hose....
to restrict the flow of hydraulic fluid to the bomb. A new one one is like $10 from the dealer or
