Do you guys think Component speakers like these would be the way to go?

or maybe even just put regular ones up front and replace the rear deck speakers with high quality subs?

as for cutting out the deck for subs and working out rattles good luck with that. i mean if you got the skill go for it, i just cant imagine trying to lay on my back in the trunk or try and go from uptop with the back glass in the way trying to cut perfect xin circles out of metal and particle board that old isn't too friendly with a blade. Admitted it would look bueatiful but i dont trust myself enough to do it nor have the money to pay for someone to do it for me.

Well im just really confused about what do now. i have the craft skills to make it work but still dont know what im doing. i will probably go with 2 12s in the trunk new head unit and new amplified speakers all the way around. do you think i would need a second battery and if so how does that set up work?

In my humble opinion, the best thing that a Type 44 owner can do to improve the sound from the audio system is to sound deaden the car. Read here: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

I have an 800 Watt 4 channel and a 400 Watt 2 channel amp and 12" subwoofer in a 1.1 cu ft sealed box sitting on the shelf, but I've chosen not to install it. I've found that once I properly dampened the car's metal panels, the stock speakers and stock (50 Watt?) booster amp and stock radio sound amazingly good . . . and I don't want to give up the space that the aftermarket components would occupy.
The general idea is that instead of raising the music's sound level in the car, you lower the car's ambient interior noise level. It works and won't cost more than a couple hundred dollars. The labor is easy to do . . . it just takes a while because you need to remove the trim to access the undampened metal panels. And it makes driving without the radio even more pleasant.
I used new Dynamat Xtreme and closed cell foam plus used Mercedes and BMW sound dampening mats pulled from junked cars.

my only suggestions are these...
ive never personally heard of boss audio, but they may be very good. remember that the signal from the head unit IS the sound coming out of the speakers, so focus on the head unit just as much if not more then the speakers.
watch out for speaker depth in the door. there is room, but a self amplified speaker may be too deep.
this is kinda my personal preference, but id rather have a ported box them a sealed one. it makes it much easier for the speakers to move air back and forth and gives a deeper more throaty sound. for every forward movement of the speakers there is backward movement also and a non ported box restricts the backward movement as the speaker cone tries to compress the air inside the box. you can take any box and port it if you like, so if the non ported is cheaper, get that.

i know for a fact that the Alpine head units put out a nice clean signal, and provide almost endless tuning. the rest of the system sounds great! you can pick up an alpine CDA 9887 for 254.00 on amazon.com, which is a 450 dollar unit on alpines website and looks awesome when installed in the car. that unit is a step up from what i have and im very pleased with my CDE 9873's performance, almost 4 years strong. their durability is outstanding, none of my buttons stick, none of the paint is coming off, all the adjustments ***** still work and it fit in the factory socket beautifully, no mods.
