Distributor questions...

OK... here's the poop... that wagon I just bought still won't start, but I think I may be on the track as to why (but perhaps not and hence the post).
The distributor in it is different than the one I have installed in FrankenAudi. Completely different part number. The only difference I can see (other than it being clean and shiny because it is brand new) is that the windows for the hall sensor number more than one. The one in Frank has just one window and gives the timing refernce from the hall sensor only once per revolution. The other one I think must have 5 windows, and when the timing marks are aligned the hall sender is further round clockwise. I swapped the new one into Frank and he wouldn't start either.
So, now the first question... Is the distributor wrong?
Also, when I put the old dizzy back into Frank something new has started to happen. I think the distributor was originally rotated further clockwise. He starts much easier now, BUT as soon as I hit positive manifold pressure the check engine light comes on. ARRRRRRRGHHHHH!
Any thoughts?

It is used as a "Cam position sensor" of sorts, whereas the naturally aspirated 10v's use a 5-window distributor, as it needs one trigger per timing event (5cyl = 5 window).

and since it doesn't need a PT to read MAP, it doesn't need to control boost with the WasteGate Frequency Valve (WGFV) which is essentially an early form of an N75 valve or Electronic Boost Control (EBC), which is all the rage today! Nice of Audi to use a WGFV since, well, always with the turbo motors.
