It's a shock, but what bushing? There's a captive bushing in the "eye" at the bottom.

Default I mean is the shock a cartiage that sits inside the tube.

The lower bolt that goes throught the bottom bushing is the bushing I am talking about.

Default no sir, it's a shock like on a pick up truck rear, but with a post at the top.

A "strut" also functions as the missing upper control arm, while a "shock" just provides damping. In this case, the rears are just shocks. Attached to the body at the top, with a mounting plate, and at the lower control arm through that bushing you're writing about.

What are you wanting to do? Sounds like the bushing is bad and you're trying to find out if a replacement shock comes with a new one, or if it's more a part of the car that gets changed out separately.

Default I got the springs of the rear shock, but I'm not sure how to get the lower retainer off.

I got the cover off, but not sure how to get the shock to seperate from the lower retainer.

Default spring perch, right? I would turn it upside down and smack it

try to smack it square if possible. Ideally, I suppose if you had a large diameter pipe that you could use to apply pressure all around it to keep it square as you went, it would help.

I'm sorry, but which "cover" are you referring to?
